Sebou Basin: more than 70 million dirhams for the protection of Fès and El Hajeb against flooding

Fès – Projects with a total investment of more than 70 million dirhams are scheduled as part of efforts to protect the cities of Fès and El Hajeb against the risks of flooding.

These projects are the subject of two separate partnership agreements that were approved during the board of directors of the Sebou Hydraulic Basin Agency (ABHS), for the year 2024, held last week under the chairmanship of the Minister of Water and Equipment, Nizar Baraka.

The board members thus approved an annex to a partnership agreement aimed at extending the duration of the project to protect the city of Fès, the regional capital, against flooding from 36 to 72 months for a total investment amounting to 55 million DH.

The project, which concerns the development of the Lahmar and Ain Sman wadis, is expected to be carried out within the framework of a partnership between the ABHS, the National Office of Railways (ONCF), the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Fès-Meknès Regional Council, the Fès Prefectural Council, and the Wilaya of the region.

At the level of El Hajeb, a project with a total investment of 16.82 million dirhams is planned as part of efforts to protect this Middle Atlas city against floods.

An annex to the agreement extending the implementation period of this project from 36 to 54 months was also validated during the board of directors of the Sebou Hydraulic Basin Agency.

Supported by the Provincial Council of El Hajeb, the project concerns the protection of the Boubouda Wadi against flooding and is the subject of an agreement between the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of the Interior, the Regional Council, the Communal and Provincial Councils of El Hajeb, and the Wilaya of the region and the province of El Hajeb.

These agreements are part of a series of partnership agreements that have covered various fields, notably the fight against water pollution, the management of water resources, the development and exploitation of the public hydraulic domain, in addition to the fight against flooding in the area of intervention of the Sebou Hydraulic Basin Agency.
