In this context, the Fès-Meknès regional council has allocated an envelope of over 1.4 billion dirhams to strengthen public policies in the water sector, under an agreement approved during the ordinary session of March, which also saw the approval of about forty partnership agreements covering various fields.
This contribution is part of the implementation of the water sector agreement signed during the second edition of the National Congresses on Advanced Regionalisation, held last December in Tangier, between the Ministries of Interior and Equipment and Water, the Ministry Delegate for the Budget, and the regional councils.
This agreement marks a new framework for cooperation aimed at strengthening water and environmental public policies at the regional level. Faced with growing challenges in this area, this agreement will optimise water resource management and provide tailored solutions to the needs of the concerned territories.
During the Tangier congresses, it is recalled, four major agreements were signed between government departments and the presidents of the twelve regions of Morocco. This event, focused on strengthening territorial governance, saw the conclusion of agreements covering strategic sectors such as regionalisation, water management, public transport, and household waste treatment.
Furthermore, the council validated an amendment to the specific agreement concerning the national programme for drinking water supply and irrigation 2022-2027. The amendment provides for an increase in the number of beneficiary douars and the total investment from 206.9 to 367.75 million dirhams.
Under this agreement, with a total budget of 367.75 million dirhams, the council will release a contribution of 31 million dirhams. The remainder will be provided by partners, namely the Ministry of Interior and the region's wilaya.
