Al Haouz: more than 48,000 people targeted by the plan to mitigate the effects of the cold wave

The provincial plan to mitigate the effects of the cold wave targets more than 48,000 people in the Al Haouz province, including 16,000 children and 6,000 elderly people, with a focus on providing support and assistance to vulnerable groups.

These data were revealed during a meeting of the provincial vigilance committee, held on Monday in Tahannaout, and chaired by the governor of the Al Haouz province, Rachid Benchikhi, in the presence of representatives from the various departments concerned, in order to review the measures undertaken to mitigate the negative effects of the cold wave during the 2024-2025 winter season.

According to the same data, the target population at the provincial level is distributed across 150 Douars, 38 of which are classified in the high-risk red zone.

In the health sector, health services have been strengthened through the mobilization of 32 general practitioners, 11 specialized doctors, and 111 nurses, in addition to the equipping of 86 ambulances, the scheduling of 187 field visits for medical teams, and the organization of five specialized medical campaigns.

In terms of logistics, 95 snow-clearing vehicles have been deployed in the most affected areas, and advanced, fully equipped centers have been set up to ensure rapid intervention.

Communication and energy infrastructures have also been strengthened, with improvements to the mobile phone network in remote areas and the replacement of damaged electricity poles.

Furthermore, an early warning system is being developed via smartphone applications to provide residents with real-time information on weather conditions.

The measures also include the distribution of basic products such as firewood, improved stoves, and blankets to affected families, in addition to support for schools with 75 tonnes of firewood and 7,500 blankets to ensure the continuation of schooling.
