The National Institute of Geophysics recorded, in the early hours of this Wednesday morning, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter scale, in the Talat N'Yaaqoub area of the Al Haouz province.
According to statements by the director of the National Institute of Geophysics, Nacer Jabour, this tremor, which was felt by some residents of the area, is considered one of the natural tremors that the region experiences frequently, confirming that “the situation is not a cause for concern”, and noting that “this phenomenon is natural and does not pose a danger to the population”.
Jabour explained in statements to national media that “the earthquake did not result in any human or material damage”, and reassured the residents that the data indicates the stability of the situation, and that it comes in the context of the normal seismic activity recorded from time to time in the region”.
It is worth noting that the High Atlas regions, including the Al Haouz province, are among the seismically active regions in Morocco, due to their geological location.
