The operation of the Casablanca shipyard, the largest in Africa, is fueling the covetousness of global giants in shipbuilding. Since the launch, on April 9, of the call for tenders by the National Ports Agency (ANP), several candidates, declared or in ambush, are positioning themselves to win this thirty-year contract.
Among the contenders is the world number one in the sector, the South Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries, closely followed by the French group Naval Group, specialized in the defense industry.
The condition required by the Agency, namely to justify at least ten years of experience in managing comparable infrastructure, effectively rules out Moroccan companies. The latter have organized themselves into consortiums. Two of them stand out: Somagec, in alliance with the Turkish manufacturer Kuzey Star Shipyard, and New Shipyard World, which brings together the Spanish giant Marina Meridional and the Moroccan Radi Holding.
