From the presidency of the "PAM" parliament to the government… Najwa Koukous Minister of Family, Social Development, and Equality
Najwa Koukous, President of the National Council of the Authenticity and Modernity Party, moved from parliamentary work and party leadership to government responsibility, following her appointment as Minister of Family, Social Development, and Equality, during the ceremony presided over by King Mohammed VI on Friday, October 16, 2026, at the Royal Palace in Rabat, to take charge of a sector linked to a number of social and human rights files, including equality between women and men, social protection, and combating violence against women. Koukous's appointment comes in a context where discussions continue regarding the reform of the Family Code, strengthening social protection, and improving the conditions of vulnerable groups, which are files that place the ministry before challenges related to developing public policies and transforming legal and social commitments into concrete measures. Koukous is considered one of the prominent female figures within the Authenticity and Modernity Party, as she has held the presidency of the party's National Council since February 2024, after accumulating experience in organisational and political work, which started from youth and local responsibilities before moving to the legislative institution. Koukous hails from the Derb Sultan neighbourhood in Casablanca, where she received her education in the public school, before pursuing her university studies at the Faculty of Law of Hassan II University in Casablanca. She began her political career within the Authenticity and Modernity Party, in whose organisational structures she became involved, before assuming the presidency of the party's youth organisation in 2015, a responsibility that constituted a milestone in her transition to positions of responsibility within the party organisation. Koukous also previously participated in managing local affairs in Casablanca, before entering the House of Representatives following the 2021 legislative elections, representing the Authenticity and Modernity Party from the regional list for the Casablanca-Settat region. During her previous parliamentary term, her name was linked to files of legislation, human rights, equality, and parity, and she chaired the thematic parliamentary working group in charge of equality and parity, which focused on issues of strengthening equality between women and men and evaluating their presence in legislation and public policies. Koukous renewed her presence in the House of Representatives following the legislative elections that took place on September 23, 2026, after winning a seat for the Casablanca-Anfa district in the name of the Authenticity and Modernity Party, in an election that followed her first parliamentary experience which began in 2021.
