Tangier at the time of the National Cultural Conference

Tangier at the time of the National Cultural Conference

The National Conference on Moroccan Culture will be held on 9 and 10 January in Tangier with the watchword of prospecting the cultural future of Morocco.

Initiated by the Union of Moroccan Writers (UEM) within the framework of the celebration of the "year of Moroccan culture", this conference will see the participation of several national actors and experts in the cultural field, including thinkers, researchers, experts, artists, and journalists.

According to a statement from the UEM, representatives of the legislative institution, government departments, and bodies, associations, and cultural, artistic, and human rights centres of different backgrounds will also take part in this major meeting. The participants in this conference will examine, in addition to the main platform in its new version, the draft documents relating to the work of the various commissions after their revision and updating, the number of workshops having increased from 8 to 13, the same source explains.

These are the workshops on cultural policy and cultural diplomacy, culture and intangible capital, culture and regionalisation, popular culture, thought and values, identity and cultural and linguistic plurality, culture and communication, creativity and translation, writing, reading, publishing and distribution, theatre, cinema, visual arts, and music, the statement specifies. The opening of this event will be marked by the signing of a document regarding the "resurrection" of the Union of Maghreb Writers, in the presence of the presidents of the Maghreb Unions and the Secretary General of the General Union of Arab Writers.

Likewise, a tribute will be paid to a galaxy of figures of thought and literature, from Morocco, the Arab world, and Europe who have left their mark on Moroccan and Arab culture.

The UEM noted that the choice of Tangier, through the press club, to host this grandiose cultural event "carries a strong symbolism and is the reflection of the new Morocco, that of development and modernity".
