Round table on STDs

Round table on STDs

In partnership with the Global Fund for Women, the Women's Association for the Fight Against Violence Against Women in Safi has just organised a round table on sexually transmitted diseases on 24 March 2012 at the headquarters of the Alliance Franco-Marocaine. This activity, which set itself the objectives of raising women's awareness of the dangers of STDs, the possibilities of prevention as well as the importance of early diagnosis, was moderated by Hassan Switi, gynaecologist, Fatima Waksim, gynaecologist and member of the AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Diseases Centre at the Mohammed V CHP in Safi, and Zouhra Rachad, member of the Women's Association for the Fight Against Violence Against Women in Safi.

For Fatima Waksim, the origins of the scourge are medical, social and economic. The danger of STDs is always present as long as there is the trafficking of women, sex tourism, poverty and a lack of awareness, especially among young people. On this subject, 6,651 affected women were recorded in 2010, and 6,344 others in 2011. Waksim called for more awareness, while taking into consideration social, educational and economic factors. Hassan Switi, for his part, devoted his intervention to uterine cancer, which is essentially due to the sedimentation of several viruses, notably HPV. For him, the prevention of this disease is possible thanks to the vaccine and regular diagnostics.
