20% more tourists during the first five months of 2014

Ouarzazate attracted more tourists during the first five months of 2014 compared to the same period in 2013. There were 149,271 people who visited the city between the months of January and May 2014, against 124,908 people during the same period of the previous year. This is an increase of 20%, according to statistics from the Provincial Tourism Council (CPT). And it is the French who are in the lead with 36,303 people (+3% compared to the same period in 2013). They are followed by German tourists with 19,925 people (+29%) and Japanese with 12,031 visitors (+38%). According to the same source, the strongest increase by source market was recorded by the Polish market with +79% (2,593 tourists), followed notably by the Spanish market with an increase of 77% (11,575 tourists). Furthermore, the number of overnight stays recorded an increase of around 23%, rising from 172,603 between January and May 2013 to 212,637 during the same period of the current year. For its part, the occupancy rate of classified hotels in Ouarzazate stood at 31% during the first five months of 2014, against 23% a year earlier.
