Initially scheduled from 6 to 10 May in Mohammedia, the Nawafid Festival of Maghreb cultures has been postponed to a later date. Organised around an artistic and cultural programme in which artists from all Maghreb countries participate, the Festival had to be postponed due to certain difficulties encountered by participants in making the trip and being present. "Because of the difficulties encountered by cultural and artistic delegations participating in the Festival, due to the conditions of instability experienced by some Maghreb countries, in addition to the delay recorded in the commitments of some partners, and in a concern to ensure a good organisation of this edition, the organising committee has decided to postpone the date of the Festival," indicates Mohammed Agouyame, director of the Nawafid Festival. And to add: "That being said, the organising committee remains committed to its obligations towards the institutions and partner organisations of the Festival". As of today, the date for holding the Festival has not yet been set. However, the organisers specify that this second edition is maintained and will indeed make the City of Flowers vibrate in the near future. Organised at the initiative of the Moroccan Association of Arts and Cultures (AMAC), on the sidelines of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, this event is held around the theme "Cultural diversity: a vector of development in the Greater Maghreb". The artistic programme includes music concerts, plays and film screenings, as well as a book fair and an exhibition of murals. In this sense, it is planned that the walls along Boulevard Hassan II will be dressed with paintings over a distance of 1 kilometre. About twenty painters from all the participating countries will contribute to the creation of this giant fresco. "This collective work aims to redefine the image of the city of Mohammedia for the coming year. The action is intended to be a festive and artistic experience, as well as a cultural and tourist showcase for the city," the organisers had stressed during the presentation of the event. According to the same source, the opening ceremony will be marked by a vibrant tribute that will be paid to the personalities who have made culture a tool for development. These include Ahmed Boukous, rector of the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture, the Libyan actor and playwright Saleh Alabyad, the Tunisian author Fatiha Hechmi, the Mauritanian poet Brahim Ould Semir, as well as the Algerian painter Mourad Abdelaoui.

Similarly, a conference on the theme "Cultural diversity, a fundamental spring of Maghreb development" is planned on the sidelines of the event. Furthermore, the Book Fair organised during the event will be hosted by about fifty publishers from the five Maghreb countries. This fair has the ambition, according to the organisers, to preserve written heritage and promote literary creation. Finally, music is not left out during this second edition of Nawafid. In this sense, artists from the Maghreb, each playing a different style bearing the imprint of their country, are expected during the five days that the festival lasts.

Cultural blending. As its name suggests, the Nawafid Festival aims to be a set of windows open to the culture of the Arab Maghreb. The first edition took place from 18 to 22 June 2013 around several values, including openness, union, exchange, diversity and sharing. This event had as its main highlight the Book Fair, whose vocation was to offer exhibitors the opportunity to make known the cultural heritage of their countries and to exchange their respective experiences. Similarly, a film screening had brought together the best productions and the latest Maghreb creations, all embellished with theatrical plays for the strengthening of intercultural dialogue. The first edition of the festival will have been an opportunity to pay tribute to cultural actors, ambassadors of their respective countries.
