The first national congress of the Moroccan Syndicate of Theatre Professionals (SMPT) will be held from 1 to 3 June in Mohammedia, under the theme "Citizenship, thought, creativity, and dignity of the artist first".
This congress will see the participation of representatives from the 24 regional branches of the syndicate, in addition to artists, journalists, and civil society actors, with the ambition of developing working mechanisms in the artistic field, indicates a statement from the SMPT on Wednesday.
The emphasis will be placed on the rehabilitation and upgrading of the theatre and culture sectors, the actions to be deployed to make known the specificities of Moroccan culture, and the adoption of participatory governance in the management of cultural affairs.
The congress will be enhanced by the presence of Moroccan actors who have "played a pioneering role in the Moroccan theatrical movement and faced all kinds of alienation or alteration of the 4th art, in the service of the values of citizenship, to preserve national identity and build the Morocco of cultures", underlines the statement.
"We are all bound by a duty of loyalty towards the generation of pioneers who have greatly served cultural diversity, while paying particular attention to the new generation of playwrights", concludes the statement.
The Moroccan Syndicate has called on all concerned actors, particularly the supervisory ministry, intellectuals, and artists, to adhere to this civilisational project with a view to fostering the expected cultural renaissance.
