In his sermon, the Imam took care to recall certain qualities that the Muslim must show during the holy month of Ramadan, which the Moroccan people are preparing to welcome, particularly in terms of commercial transactions. Starting from the verse "Is it not He who has subjected the Earth to you? Walk therefore through its vast expanses and eat of what God has granted you. It is to Him that your return will be" (Quran-Al Mulk), the Imam stressed that the Almighty has facilitated for people the modes of lawful appropriation of their means of subsistence on earth, particularly through trade within the limits of what God has ordered by refraining from engaging in usury: "God has permitted selling and forbidden usury" (Quran-Al Baqara).
If the Muslim observes this recommendation in the exercise of any commercial activity, God blesses and makes his action fruitful. The Muslim thus becomes truthful with God and can maintain good relations with the members of his community who grant him their trust in return and open the way for him to lawful gain: "O believers! Fear God and join those who are truthful!" (Quran-At-Tawbah).
Otherwise, the Muslim attracts the wrath of God since usury and the use of lies to mislead customers are practices that the holy religion prohibits, said the Imam, adding that some merchants take advantage of certain events such as the advent of the holy month of Ramadan to proceed with price increases for certain foodstuffs or to change the expiry dates of certain foods, thus seeking rapid and illicit enrichment. The Muslim thus exposes himself to the worst of punishments, continued the speaker, citing a Hadith of the Prophet Sidna Mohammed, may prayer and blessings be upon him, in which it is said that the best of gains is that which comes from human labour or lawful trade.
The speaker then listed certain conditions that favour this lawful trade which must not suffer from any fraud and the merchant must not engage in monopoly activities or cheat in measurement: "Woe to the fraudsters who when they buy from others demand full measure, but who when they themselves measure or weigh for others falsify the weight and cheat in the measure!" (Quran: Al-Mutaffifin).
The Imam indicated that one of the qualities of the pious Muslim with sincere faith is that he fears God in appearance and in secret and that he strives to earn his living and that of his offspring through ways authorised by the holy religion, a work that will be amply rewarded in the afterlife: "To God belongs all that is in the Heavens and on the Earth, so that He may reward, according to their works, those who do evil, and grant the best reward to those who do good" (Quran-An-Najm).
At the end of his sermon, the Imam implored the Almighty to grant support and assistance to H.M. the King, Amir Al Mouminine, protector of the cult and religion, to preserve the Sovereign as a source of benefits for the Ummah and to fill him with blessings in the persons of H.R.H. Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, H.R.H. Prince Moulay Rachid and all the members of the illustrious Royal Family. The Imam also raised prayers to the Most High to surround with His holy mercy the late H.M. Hassan II and the late H.M. Mohammed V and to welcome them into His paradise among the Prophets, the saints and the virtuous.
