The Mohammed VI CHU reinforces its performance

The Mohammed VI University Hospital Centre of Marrakech held its board of directors meeting with, on the agenda, the examination and adoption of the 2016 action plan and the draft budget for the current year.

The board of directors of the Mohammed VI University Hospital Centre (CHU) of Marrakech was held recently under the chairmanship of the secretary general of the Ministry of Health, Abdelali Alaoui Belghiti. This meeting was devoted to the examination and adoption of the CHU's achievements in 2014 and during the first half of 2015, the 2014 administrative account, the 2016 action plan, and the draft budget for the current year. It was also the occasion for the representative of the supervisory ministry to present the main future projects in terms of health, including draft law 70-13 relating to hospital centres, the networking of CHUs, the implementation of a new Web service to allow citizens to make appointments in all hospitals, the creation of new hospital centres in Tangier, Agadir, Beni Mellal, and Laâyoune, as well as the activation of the regional health map project.

The director of the Mohammed VI CHU, Prof. Hicham Nejmi, gave an exhaustive presentation of the Centre's achievements, showing that all indicators are on the rise. In this capacity, he noted that the number of emergency visits had risen from 168,870 in 2013 to 172,273 in 2014 and that surgical interventions had continued to increase to reach 28,070 in 2014. He also reviewed the medical feats accomplished by the CHU teams in terms of organ and tissue transplantation. Thus, it emerges from the said presentation that 38 cochlear implants (electronic implant which aims to provide a certain level of hearing for people with profound deafness) were performed between December 2007 and June 2014 on children suffering from deafness.

Similarly, 40 bone marrow transplants were performed between 2012 and 2015, 184 corneal transplants from August 2009 to the end of 2015, 25 kidney transplants from December 2010 to December 2015, 4 liver transplants between 2014 and 2015, and one heart transplant in 2015. The board then dwelt on the strengthening of the health offer which involves, among other things, the adoption of a global, concerted strategy associating all actors to alleviate the pressure exerted on the various services of the Centre. The members of the board also addressed subjects such as the opening of the CHU to its external environment, the promotion of research and the training offer, a solution to the problem of hospital waste treatment, the improvement of the billing system, and the staffing of the CHU with health personnel to fill the deficit in this area. Created in 2002, the Mohammed VI CHU includes the five hospital establishments which are Ibn Tofaïl, Ibn Nafis, Arrazi, the "Mother-Child" hospital, and the Onco-haematology Centre. Despite an acute lack of human resources, this structure fulfils as it should the mission that is its own in the care of patients not only from the Marrakech-Safi region, but also from other regions of the Kingdom.
