Successful multi-organ harvesting and transplantation at the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Marrakech

A team of specialists from the Mohammed VI University Hospital (CHU) in Marrakech recently carried out a multi-organ harvesting from a patient in a state of brain death and successfully performed transplant operations on several patients. This harvesting took place during the night of 13 to 14 October, a period coinciding with World Organ Donation Day celebrated on 17 October, highlights a press release from the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Marrakech. The Cardiac Transplantation Committee thus succeeded in transplanting the heart to a 14-year-old child suffering from cardiomyopathy. "The operation took place in good conditions thanks to the concerted efforts and skills of the teams at the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Marrakech," adds the same source.

This organ donation operation also made it possible to transplant the liver to a patient suffering from cirrhosis. This is the third intervention of this kind led by the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Marrakech. This organ donation also made it possible to transplant kidneys to two patients suffering from kidney failure, a child and a young person respectively at the Marrakech University Hospital and the Casablanca University Hospital, giving them the hope of resuming a normal life. Regarding tissue transplantation, the two harvested corneas were transplanted to two young patients suffering from corneal blindness. This noble and generous gesture, which benefited six patients, attests to high values of solidarity and citizenship.
