A fire broke out in a forest area located in the rural commune of Jbel Lahbib falling under the province of Tetouan, indicates a source from the Regional Delegation of the High Commission for Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification (HCEFLCD) of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceïma on Monday. The fire, which started on the night of Sunday to Monday, ravaged several forest massifs, composed essentially of cork oak and other plants, it was specified. Elements of the Civil Protection, Auxiliary Forces, the HCEFLCD delegation, National Mutual Aid, and local authorities were mobilised, supported by more than 20 ground technical means and two Canadair planes belonging to the Royal Air Forces.
Efforts were continuing to control the fire, the same source adds, noting that the excessive heat, strong winds, and the difficulty of the region's terrain complicated the extinguishing of this fire. In this regard, an investigation has been opened under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor's Office to determine the causes of this fire.
