Agadir performed well in July

The Agadir destination is definitely recovering. After a lacklustre start to the year, the tourism indicators of the capital of the South are gaining momentum. Thus, tourism activity in July 2015 in classified hotel establishments in Agadir recorded notable increases. In terms of arrivals, Agadir recorded an increase of 28.18%, i.e., 83,308 arrivals in July 2015 compared to 64,991 in the same month of 2014.

In the same vein, the city saw an increase of 7.19% in terms of overnight stays, i.e., 400,244 in July 2015 compared to 373,397 in July 2014. Also, despite the influence of the month of Ramadan, which took place in the middle of the summer period, the national market positioned itself in first place with an increase of 18,152 arrivals. This is what emerges from the results of the tourism accommodation statistics for the month of July and the first seven months of 2015 produced by the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of Agadir and titled "Signs of a recovery".

Similarly, the figures reveal that the French market recorded an increase of 29.99%, i.e., 3,857 more clients in the month of July. A rise that contrasts with the 16.22% drop in overnight stays, i.e., a decline of 14,225 overnight stays.

Quite the opposite of the German market, which, for its part, recorded a 15.64% drop in terms of arrivals, with a decline of 775 clients, and a 14.42% increase in terms of overnight stays, with a rise of 5,033. Regarding the length of stay, during the month of July 2015, the CRT recorded a notable drop. Thus, the average length of stay was 4.80 days in July 2015 against 5.75 days in the same period in 2014.

The same applies to the average occupancy rate in classified hotels in the city of Agadir during the month of July 2015, which recorded a drop of 0.06 to stand at 46.84% in July 2015 compared to 46.86% in the same period in 2014. On the other hand, the CRT notes that only 12 hotel establishments with a capacity of 8,023 beds recorded an average rate of 72.91%, and 42 hotel establishments with a capacity of 13,727 beds recorded an average rate of 44.05%. Also, 35 other hotel establishments with a bed capacity of 7,211 recorded a weighted average rate of 19.85%.

Furthermore, the good performance of the month of July did not manage to absorb the decline recorded during the first six months. Thus, the analysis of the cumulative arrivals and overnight stays recorded in classified hotels in the city of Agadir during the first seven months of 2015 compared to 2014 shows a drop of 3.18%, i.e., 486,906 visitors received between January and July 2015 against 502,915 visitors during the same period of 2014.

Similarly, overnight stays were down by 10.26%, with 2,262,788 overnight stays achieved in the first 7 months of 2015 against 2,521,563 overnight stays recorded in the same period in 2014. In this vein, the average length of stay recorded a drop between January and July 2015, standing at 4.65 against 5.01 between January and July 2014. Finally, the average occupancy rate for the first seven months of 2015 in classified hotels in the city of Agadir recorded a drop of 14.90, standing at 43.93% in 2015 against 51.62% in 2014.

Overall, the month of July 2015 marks a notable recovery in the performance of tourism activity in Agadir. A long-awaited recovery that somewhat corrects the downward trend recorded since the beginning of the year across the country.
