An association serving the Sidi Bernoussi Industrial Zone

An association serving the Sidi Bernoussi Industrial Zone

Little or very little is known about what Izdihar does. Yet this Casablanca-based NGO, which has been working for the industrial zones of Sidi Bernoussi, has existed since 1997. The 2013 financial year was exceptionally rich in events and achievements for this association with a strong economic, social, and civic dimension. Despite the complexity of managing the Sidi Bernoussi industrial park, which depends on several public and private bodies, the Izdihar association has been involved in this management since its creation to improve the living environment for the park's users. Thus, as part of actions aimed at reducing malicious acts, and following several complaints regarding the lack of security and various burglaries of which manufacturers were victims, the president of the association invited members to participate in a meeting held last January, in the presence of the head of the Bernoussi police district. This meeting allowed the company representatives present to share their grievances and complaints. It also allowed the head of the police district to provide a very detailed presentation to inform the audience of the resources made available to strengthen security at the industrial zone level. Thus, video surveillance cameras with recording capabilities were installed all around the industrial unit. Employers also began requesting the criminal records of their employees, staff from security companies, and temporary employment agencies in order to check their judicial backgrounds. Furthermore, and as part of infrastructure renewal, Izdihar members met with the governor to study the possibilities of creating parking spaces on the pavements. The governor therefore ordered the creation of a commission composed of local authorities and Izdihar. The said commission carried out a site visit to propose a parking layout model to the governor. During a second meeting with the governor, a layout model was approved.

The Sidi Bernoussi industrial zone suffers from a considerable lack of transport. A study was therefore carried out and recommended the implementation of a shuttle service within the industrial zone connecting the coastal road to the Ahl Loghlam road. The Izdihar association consulted a transport provider who proposed two quotes for the implementation of buses during peak hours. This quote was discussed at the board meeting and during a meeting of the association's HR club. It was decided to conduct a survey in 2014 among companies near the route to study its feasibility. Many projects led by the Izdihar association are underway to improve the daily lives of companies in the Sidi Bernoussi industrial zone. These include, among others, continuing the support programme for the redevelopment of boulevards, roads, green spaces, and sports and cultural infrastructure.

History of the Izdihar Association The Association of Economic Operators of the Sidi Bernoussi Industrial Zones was created in 1997 with the aim of improving the general environment of the industrial zone, fulfilling a mediator role, and mobilising funding to concretise projects in various infrastructural, civic, socio-cultural, and sports fields. It is about achieving synergy between the various active players of the business park created in the 1960s and composed of the industrial zones of Ahl Loughlam, Sidi Bernoussi, Sidi Moumen, Korea, and Beaulieu. Installed on an area of 1,000 hectares, the park has more than 600 industrial units, including 10% of the 500 most important companies in Morocco. It generates more than 60,000 direct jobs and nearly 150,000 indirect jobs. The main funds of this association come from member contributions, patrons, and well-wishers, but also from national and international organisations.
