The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and the Faculty of Legal, Economic and Social Sciences-Aïn Sebaa signed a partnership agreement in the field of human rights on Thursday in Casablanca. This agreement was signed on the sidelines of a study day organised by the Faculty on the theme "Social Responsibility and Governance of Organisations". Signed by the President of the CNDH, Driss El Yazami, and the Dean of the Faculty, Jamila Houfaidi Settar, the agreement provides for joint programmes between the two institutions with a view to promoting the culture of human rights in the university environment by developing knowledge and practices in this area among students and also by establishing synergies with all human rights activists.
The agreement also provides for the establishment of a regional cultural forum dedicated to the promotion of human rights among students and all actors active in the field. The forum will also be dedicated to communication around international conventions ratified by Morocco as well as to the encouragement of research on the subject and the exchange of publications between the two parties. This partnership agreement illustrates the interest that this faculty has in the issue of promoting human rights. Indeed, this university establishment has already organised numerous initiatives within the framework of promoting human rights, which testify to its openness to organisations and associative actors active in the field of human rights, with a view to enshrining the values of citizenship in the university environment. The process of raising awareness of human rights requires, according to the Dean of the Faculty, a programme that makes this subject a full-fledged teaching, and an integral part of university studies. She added that human rights pedagogy prepares students to be future actors in the promotion of good governance, social dialogue and civic engagement, affirming that "the next step is that of the appropriation of human rights instruments by all stakeholders, particularly by students". The Faculty of Legal, Economic and Social Sciences-Aïn Sebaa already hosted, last December, a training cycle on human rights for young job seekers with the objective of training educators in this field, launched by the CNDH. This training cycle, which will run until June 2014, aims to introduce young people to the tools for protecting and promoting human rights, strengthen their capacities in human rights to improve their employability and train them so that they can relay information to other young people wishing to become human rights educators.
