In front of more than 3,500 spectators who took their seats on Tuesday evening in the stands of the Sidi Mohamed hall in Ain Sebaâ in Casablanca, Wydad signed its first victory of the season away against the tough Sport Plaza team with a score of 69 to 66.
From the kick-off of this confrontation whistled by the refereeing trio Chlif-Ziad-Amran, the Wydadis immediately stormed the basket of the Plazerois. However, the locals reacted to join the WAC at the score at the beginning of the first quarter 13-16.
After the short break, the WAC coach, Zeljko Zecivic, did not hesitate to rotate his entire squad without, however, managing to widen the gap (28-35).
Upon resuming, the WAC public continued to encourage its team, helping it to win the 3rd quarter (44-51). This pushed the French coach of Sport Plaza to change tactics, which bore fruit, especially during the last seconds where the scoreboard recorded 66 all. At that moment, the victory could have tipped to one side or the other. And it was finally the WAC that won thanks to its Tunisian player Hdidane, author of a three-point basket. A most surprising end to the match that we would like to see several times in this championship which has just begun.
After the final whistle, there was jubilation among the supporters of the WAC, which obtained a hard-fought victory allowing it to place itself in pole position in the South pool while waiting for its match during the second day against the ASS in Casablanca.
The second match of this group was to pit the ASS against the CMC in Salé yesterday.
For its part, the MAS of Fès, without Hjira and Réda Ghali but with Younès Idrissi and Matar N’Baye, lost to the RSB after overtime 89/92. It should be noted that the RSB played with two former players of the Salé Sports Association, namely Réda Ghalimi and Zouita Abdelhakim, in addition to Merouane Moutalibi. It is a formation that will undoubtedly have its say during this season.
For its part, the MCO, the newly promoted team, began its journey in the big leagues with a defeat in Oujda against the formidable Chabab Rif Al Hoceima formation with a score of 59/68.
