About Zemamra
Zemamra is a Moroccan town in the El Jadida province, in the Doukkala-Abda region. It is located on the RN1 national road that connects the cities of El Jadida and Agadir, 75 km south-east of El Jadida.<br />
It has a total population of 11,896 inhabitants (2004).
It covers an area of approximately 530 hectares in the centre of the Doukkala irrigation zone, at a low altitude (161 to 167 NGM)
The town serves as an urban centre for the neighbouring communes of Laghnadra, Ouled, Sbaita, Sania, Berreguig, Gharbia, and Oualidia
With a population of 12,000 inhabitants, the municipality of Zemamra (created on 30 June 1992) has the main administrative services: Pachalik, Court (under construction), Civil Protection, Tax Collection Office, Post Office, Royal Gendarmerie, a high school, two middle schools, three primary schools, two nurseries, three mosques, a library, a cultural centre under construction, and two charitable homes.
There is also a wholesale vegetable market, two slaughterhouses (sheep and cattle), five petrol stations, seven Moorish baths, seven bread ovens, two bank branches, fourteen pharmacies, four grain mills, etc.
The town is located on a national road where transport facilities are highly developed: 200 taxis, 20 coaches, 100 goods transport lorries, 100 pick-ups, etc.
The municipality has a sewage network of 25,000 linear metres and sufficient equipment for the collection and disposal of household waste. However, a wastewater treatment plant still needs to be built.
The drinking water service (80% connection rate) is managed by the Autonomous Water and Electricity Distribution Board of El Jadida. As for electricity (90% connection rate), it is managed by the National Office of Electricity, with the exception of public lighting, which is handled by the Municipality.
