At the level of the Tangier Security Prefecture, approximately 2,500 security officers have been mobilised, deployed across the main streets and squares of Tangier, following a preventive approach aimed at consolidating the sense of security through special measures including fixed checkpoints, mobile judicial and security barriers, and patrols in various neighbourhoods of the city.
The final touches were put on the strict security measures during a meeting this evening at the Mobile Group for the Preservation of Order barracks, according to a rigorous security plan based on the principles of proximity policy and the efficiency of security services aimed at enhancing the sense of security and serving citizens.
The Prefect of Police of Tangier, Abdelkebir Farah, confirmed in a press statement on the occasion that the General Directorate of National Security has put in place a solid strategy to secure the city and citizens during the New Year, in line with the instructions of the Director General of National Security, adding that the Tangier Security Prefecture, like other decentralised services at the national level, has put in place a set of special arrangements to ensure that New Year's celebrations pass in the best conditions.
He mentioned that all available human and logistical resources have been mobilised according to a strict and integrated security approach, adding that this mobilisation includes setting up fixed checkpoints at the entrances to Tangier and mobile barriers, as well as conducting patrols, whether through the use of mounted units or foot patrols, with the aim of monitoring sensitive locations and road axes.
He stressed that security elements in charge of traffic play a pivotal role in this approach, particularly regarding ensuring the fluidity of traffic on the city's main streets, preventing accidents, and intervening to curb dangerous driver behaviours.
On another note, the security official noted that the city of Tangier, as a transit zone towards Europe, is considered a main passage for travellers, explaining that additional measures have been taken to secure transit points by mobilising security units tasked with securing travellers.
As for the Tetouan Security Prefecture, a set of exceptional security measures has been taken and all human and logistical resources have been mobilised to maintain order and public security, and to secure the New Year's Eve celebrations, as various security teams and services have been placed on alert at the level of all areas and neighbourhoods, especially sensitive points, residential facilities, road axes, as well as markets and large spaces, in addition to places of worship, hotels, and tourist places frequented by citizens and foreigners.
A strong presence of security patrols, both foot and mobile, has been observed in the centre and neighbourhoods of Tetouan and neighbouring cities such as Martil, M'diq, and Fnideq, as security barriers were set up on road axes and mobile and fixed patrols were used to monitor cars and verify identities in some cases.
In a speech during the final meeting before the deployment of police units, the Prefect of Police of Tetouan, Mohamed El Oualidi, said that the city of Tetouan and neighbouring areas enjoy security and tranquillity throughout the year due to the combined efforts of all stakeholders in the security system.
Mr. El Oualidi added that starting from this afternoon, security services, in implementation of the instructions of the Director General of National Security, began to deploy gradually in a number of vital points in the city of Tetouan and neighbouring areas to secure the New Year's Eve celebrations and ensure they pass in good conditions.
The security official mentioned that the locations of judicial barriers and checkpoints have been doubled by providing them with sufficient human resources, and foot and mobile patrols and emergency patrols have been intensified so that the celebrations pass in good conditions to protect citizens and their property.
El Oualidi stressed that New Year's celebrations require exceptional arrangements, stressing that the arrangements also included the coastal strip of the M'diq-Fnideq prefecture, which hosts a series of hotel units, in addition to strengthening the security presence in the area.
Security officers in Tangier and Tetouan have shown a great deal of dedication and selflessness in serving the public interest, as they carry out their duty with full responsibility, commitment, and seriousness in ensuring the security of citizens, the safety of property, and the preservation of public order.
