The "Trio Joubran" wins the "Ziryab Virtuosos 2015" prize

The curtain fell on Sunday evening in Tetouan on the 18th edition of the International Lute Festival with the presentation of the "Ziryab Virtuosos 2015" prize to a Palestinian music group, the "Trio Joubran", in recognition of their creativity, pioneering musical experience, and contribution to the renewal of Palestinian and Arab music. Thus, the traditional Palestinian music group seized this opportunity to express their sincere gratitude for the interest that Morocco accords to authentic Palestinian art, saluting the depth of the relations linking the Kingdom and Palestine and the human and cultural interaction between the two peoples. "This prize, awarded by the Ministry of Culture and the National Music Committee (UNESCO), constitutes for us a mark of recognition and a strong signal of the great interest that Moroccans, at the institutional and popular levels, accord to authentic art, and their attachment to the preservation and enhancement of this ancestral heritage," the members of the group emphasised.

The Trio Joubran, formed in 2004, is a traditional Palestinian music group composed of three virtuoso oud players (Samir, Wissam, and Adnan) from Nazareth. The Trio Joubran performs regularly in Europe, the United States, Canada, and the Arab world.

In 2009, the Trio Joubran signed the music for Nassim Amaouche's first film "Adieu Gary", which uses the album Majaz. Their latest album, "À l’ombre des mots", was released in 2009. The opening ceremony of the festival, placed under the High Patronage of H.M. King Mohammed VI, was punctuated by a vibrant tribute paid to the Moroccan lute player Azzedine Montassere, one of the pioneers of modern Moroccan music, in recognition of his contribution to the enrichment of the Moroccan and Arab artistic library and to the promotion of the values of tolerance and openness.
