"Three Windows and a Hanging" wins the GP

"Three Windows and a Hanging," directed in 2014, tells the story of a traditional village in Kosovo, one year after the end of the war (2000).

The film "Three Windows and a Hanging" by Isa Qosja (Montenegro) won the "Tamouda" Grand Prix in the feature film category of the 22nd Tetouan International Mediterranean Film Festival (FICMT), which ended Saturday evening.

This film, directed in 2014, tells the story of a traditional village in Kosovo, one year after the end of the war (2000), while all the inhabitants are striving to rebuild their lives, the teacher "Lushe," driven by her conscience, grants an interview to an international journalist in which she claims to have been raped by Serbian armed forces with three other women from the village.

Thus, the publication of the article awakens suspicions among the men regarding their wives. With the teacher's audacity, the characters of selfishness and domination of men surface.

The Best Actress Award was attributed to the Egyptian actress, Menna Shalabi, for her role in the film "Nouara" (2015), by the director, Hala Khalil, while that of the best actor was awarded to the actor Goran Markovic for his role in the film "Zvisdan" (The High Sun) by the Croatian director, Dalibor Motanic.

In the short film category, the Cinematic Innovation Award went to the film "Lost Village" by George Todria (Georgia-Spain), while the Jury Special Prize was won by the films "Hyménée" by the Moroccan-French director Violaine Belletet, and "Ennemis intérieurs" by the French director Sélim Azzazi.

As for the documentary film section, "Home" by the Syrian-Lebanese director Rafat Alzakout won the Grand Prix, while the First Work Award went to "We Have Never Been Kids" by Mahmood Soliman (Egypt). The Franco-Italian documentary "Aouine" by Adam Pianko and Daniel Said was awarded the Jury Special Prize.

For its part, the Azeddine Meddour Award for the first work went to the Turkish film "Dolanma" by Tunç Davut. For its part, the Greek feature film "Riverbanks" by Panos Karkanevatos won the Mohamed Reggab Award (Jury Special Prize).

The feature film "L'attesa" by Pierro Messina (Italy-France) was awarded the Mostapha Mesnaoui Award for criticism, awarded for the first time this year, whose jury was chaired by the writer and critic Mohamed Noureddine Affaya. The Audience Award was awarded to the Moroccan film "Dés...Espoirs" by Mohamed Smail.

The special mention of the jury in the feature film category was granted to the Tunisian film "The Borders of Heaven" by Farès Naanaa, and in the documentary film section was attributed to "Counter-Powers" by Malek Bensmail (Algeria).

During this closing ceremony, vibrant tributes were paid to the star of Moroccan cinema, Amal Ayouch, to the Egyptian actor, Ahmed Rizk, and to the director of the French cultural institute of Tetouan, Anita Dolfus.

Twelve feature films, thirteen short films, and as many documentaries were in the running to win the prizes of the 22nd edition of the Tetouan International Mediterranean Film Festival, in addition to the films screened out of competition (March 26-April 2).

The feature film jury was chaired by the Spanish director and producer, Luis Minarro, while the Egyptian critic and journalist, Amir Emary, and the Belgian filmmaker Karine de Villers, were placed respectively at the head of the short film and documentary film jury.
