Speakers at a meeting on "Urban planning law and issues related to the organisation of the urban domain: what local governance?" called on Friday in Tétouan for strengthening the participation of civil society in local governance.
In this context, they stressed the need to adopt new integrated approaches to territorial management, to involve various local actors in the analysis of the reality of urbanisation, and to ensure an alignment between urban planning schemes and the needs of the local population, in order to address the social problems of urbanisation.
The speakers also called for strengthening the legal framework related to urban management in order to accelerate the implementation of urban planning schemes, ensure the effectiveness of launched programmes, and develop cooperation mechanisms between stakeholders in the field of urban planning. In this context, they emphasised the importance of urban planning as the main tool for territorial management and city upgrading, according to a reasonable approach to sustainable development, noting the imperative to deploy more efforts to improve the organisation of the urban fabric.
This meeting, organised by the "Centre for Northern Spaces for Development and Cooperation", aims to create a space for exchange between the various stakeholders in the urban planning sectors regarding the issue of local governance.
The event, organised in partnership with the White Dove Association for the Protection of the Rights of People with Disabilities and the Forum of Alternatives Morocco, also aims to develop public policies in vital areas for the local and national economy and to strengthen the role of civil society in the implementation of participatory democracy and local governance, within the framework of implementing the provisions of the Constitution.
