Tahla's youth in the era of citizen volunteering

Tahla's youth in the era of citizen volunteering

Volunteering is not the preserve of big cities. It also reaches the hinterland. As proof, this major project initiated since the beginning of the week by a neighbourhood association in Tahla, a small town in the Taza province. The objective is to contribute to the cleanliness of the various corners of the Massira neighbourhood. Populated by about three thousand inhabitants, one of the oldest neighbourhoods in this city was in a lamentable state. The new association intends to engage in volunteering and thus make its contribution. The mobilisation is at its peak. The atmosphere is good-natured. The somewhat oppressive heat did not prevent categories of the population from participating in this work of solidarity. "The observation was clear, discussions between the residents of the neighbourhood led to the need to create an association, and consequently to initiate urgent local actions. The result is a frank success, the population really needed it," explains Mohamed Roudi, president of the Ait Boutayeb Association for Development. Certainly, the neighbourhood lives to the rhythm of a patent social deficit, but the young people wanted to act first and assume their share of responsibility, namely awareness, mobilisation, and the initiation of concrete actions. The neighbourhood lacks other needs, particularly in terms of road infrastructure and public lighting. Several roads are still unpaved tracks, almost impassable. The action of the young people could be a nod to the municipal officials.
