463 million dirhams for water supply

The National Office for Potable Water (Onep) has mobilised a total budget of 463 million dirhams for the supply of drinking water to 105,000 new inhabitants of the Taza province, it was learned from the provincial directorate of Onep in Taza.

An amount of around 163 million dirhams has been mobilised by the Office to begin the work of the 2nd phase of supply from the Bab Louta dam for 45,000 inhabitants grouped into 106 douars falling under the rural communes of Ghiata Al Gharbia, Oulad Zbayer, Bab Marzouka, Oulad Chrif, Béni Lente, Meknassa Charquia, and Gueldamane.

This project consists of laying approximately 225 km of pipes, the construction of 14 pumping stations, 23 reservoirs, and 133 water fountains.

It also includes the supply of power lines over 35 km and the realisation of a remote management system.

The start of work for the realisation of this important project is planned for around the middle of 2011, according to the same source.

The Onep has also released a budget of 300 million dirhams to start immediately the work of the 1st phase of the project for drinking water supply from the Asfalou Dam (Taounate province) for localities with a population of 60,000 inhabitants spread over 69 douars and falling under the rural communes of Taineste, Kaf Al Ghar, Brarha, El Gouzate, Béni Fteh, Boured, and Ajdir.

The ONEP, it is recalled, has already completed and commissioned the 1st phase of the project for drinking water supply from the Bab Louta dam for the benefit of a population of 86,000 inhabitants spread over 135 douars and 12 centres falling under 14 urban and rural communes, including notably the cities of Taza and Aknoul.

The total cost of this first phase of the project amounted to 265 million dirhams.
