Royal visit to Taourirt: consolidation of the role of handicrafts as a source of job creation and added value

Royal visit to Taourirt: consolidation of the role of handicrafts as a source of job creation and added value

Having required a budget of more than 8 million dirhams, this project should provide young people in the region with professional qualification adapted to the socio-economic reality of the handicraft sector, mainly through the apprenticeship training mode, as well as integration into the labour market. It will thus contribute to the preservation of certain trades threatened with disappearance, to the promotion of local handicraft products, and to the strengthening of the organisation and structuring of the sector. Built on a total area of 2,500 m², the new village also sets itself the objectives of supporting, organising, and supervising the artisans of the province in order to enable them to improve and diversify their incomes and to valorise their products. It notably includes workshops for pottery, traditional zellige, tapestry, leather goods, carpets, traditional sewing (men and women), carpentry, basketry based on alfa, manufacturing of fantasia weapons, as well as exhibition spaces for manufactured products. Fruit of a partnership between the Ministry of Handicrafts, the General Directorate of Local Authorities of the Ministry of the Interior, and the Chamber of Handicrafts, this village is part of the regional handicraft development plan and the 2015 vision for the development of the sector, a proactive vision geared towards growth and employment.
