The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water strengthens and secures the supply of drinking water to the city of Taounate and surrounding municipalities

The Office stated, in a press release, that this important project, costing 92 million dirhams, is financed by the Office through a joint loan from the German Development Bank (KFW), the French Development Agency (AFD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The same source explained that this project includes the expansion and equipping of raw and treated water pumping stations and a water treatment plant with an additional flow rate of 8,640 cubic meters per day, in addition to strengthening the raw and treated water conveyance channels by installing pipes with a diameter of 400 mm over a length of 9,800 meters, building two water tanks with capacities of 800 and 500 cubic meters, as well as strengthening the electrical connection.

This project will contribute to increasing the treatment plant's production capacity to 12,960 cubic meters per day, and the total capacity of drinking water tanks to 3,350 cubic meters in the city of Taounate.

The same source indicated that this project, part of the National Program for Drinking Water and Irrigation Supply 2020-2027 (PNAEPI), the agreement for which was signed in the presence of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God support him, on January 13, 2020, will ensure and meet the growing demand for drinking water in the city of Taounate and its surrounding municipalities until 2030, for a total population exceeding 149,000 inhabitants.

This major project will contribute to improving the living conditions of the beneficiary population, to the social and economic development of the region, and to the effective management of its water resources.

The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water began, on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, the operation of a structuring project aimed at strengthening the drinking water production and distribution system for the city of Taounate and its surrounding municipalities, starting from the water treatment plant on the Sahla dam.
