A Trail Atlas Tafraout has been born at the initiative of the Issafarne Association for Health and Development. This half-marathon, which will be held from 21 to 23 February 2013 in the Tafraout region (Tiznit province), will be under the aegis of the Royal Moroccan Ski and Mountain Federation and the technical direction of a nationally and internationally renowned athlete, Lahcen Ahansal.
"Sport at the service of health" is the theme of the first edition of the Trail Atlas Tafraout, which aspires to promote health through sport. As indicated by Dr. Brahim El Wafi, president of the Issafarne Association, "this sporting event will be accompanied by a medical prevention campaign against smoking, high blood pressure, and diabetes." It should also be noted that the entirety of the financial proceeds from the trail will be dedicated to the construction of Dar Al Oumouma and the redevelopment of the Tafraout health centre.
Beyond the promotion of health, this event will be an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the Tafraout region and thus reveal its cultural and tourist assets. Something that will not fail to allow for an economic dynamic in this region. Furthermore, the Trail Atlas Tafraout offers varied events, ranging from "hiking for all," to which every hiking enthusiast is invited, to the 21-kilometre half-marathon on dirt tracks, to a trail of approximately 65 kilometres. Ambitious, Ahansal declares: "Nourished by a bigger dream, I would like, through a unique event, to broaden my contribution to the development of other regions of my country through 'The 4 Seasons Trails,' a marathon event in four regions of Morocco with very different profiles, with routes in high and medium mountains, by the sea, in the oases, and in the desert."
It would indeed be an initiative aimed at promoting four regions as tourist, sporting, and cultural destinations. "The 4 Seasons Trails" started with the extreme marathon of Zagora held on 30 December. They will continue notably with the Trail Atlas Tafraout, the Ahansal Trail which will be scheduled for June 2013, the Atlantic Trail (100 km) in August 2013, and finally the Moroccan Oasis Trail (50 and 100 km), which will be held in November 2013.
