Skhirat beach keeps its “Blue Flag” for the 7th consecutive year

Skhirat beach has obtained the "Blue Flag" label for the 7th consecutive year. A distinction that crowns efforts aimed notably at improving bathing water and beach management.

This successful bet by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, the Skhirat-Témara prefecture, the urban commune of Skhirat, and Redal, allows Skhirat beach to keep this international label which rewards the efforts deployed, particularly in terms of environmental preservation, indicates a press release from the Veolia Environnement Maroc Group.

Likewise, and within the framework of the "Clean Beaches 2013" partnership agreement, the Veolia Environnement Maroc group, in partnership with the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, is launching the "Clean Beaches 2013" campaign. Thus, the group is committed, through its subsidiary Redal, to setting up sanitary infrastructures and carrying out concrete actions to animate, ventilate, and clean the beach, while encouraging holidaymakers, through awareness campaigns and workshops for children, to preserve this seaside site.

This partnership within the framework of the "Clean Beach" operation, the renewal of the Blue Flag label, and the success of the environmental awareness programme confirm the success of this exemplary partnership between the Mohammed VI Foundation, local authorities, and Redal. This partnership illustrates Redal's desire to pool all human and financial resources at the service of citizens, in order to offer them a pleasant living environment and a clean beach, meeting international standards and requirements. The same applies to the implementation of an active monitoring system for bathing water quality.

As every year since 2007, Redal is committed alongside its partners and thus carries out several concrete actions within the framework of the "Clean Beaches" campaign. New initiatives have been undertaken this year. These include, in particular, the upgrading of the lighting on Skhirat beach and the development of beach access points. The launch of the Basma club, a mobile village dedicated to young people, also took place. The latter will have access to sports and cultural activities throughout the week on the beaches of Skhirat, Jouhara, and at the Skhirat youth centre.

Other actions have also been renewed. This is the case for the installation of awareness panels. Thus, in order to meet the requirements of the international "Blue Flag" label specifications and following the recommendations of the Mohammed VI Foundation, Redal has installed specific signage on the beach and the back beach bearing messages on environmental protection, the code of conduct to be respected, and the animation programme offered to holidaymakers. The distribution of solidarity parasols operation has been renewed. A concept intended to improve the socio-economic conditions of young people operating on the beach by making new parasols available to them for rental. The proceeds from this rental will be paid to them in full.

It should also be noted that there are surveillance watchtowers and masts to signal the state of the sea, as well as the implementation of an active monitoring system for bathing water quality. Since 2007, Redal has been developing this system through the Coliplage method, which allows for the analysis of bathing water. The results of the analyses are communicated daily to holidaymakers.
