The area of action of the DPA of Sidi Kacem has experienced intensive supervision of farmers for a wide dissemination of information relating to the measures taken for the success of the current season.
The objective of the DPA, according to its director Abdelilah Asaban, is to guarantee the regular supply of inputs by making selected seeds available to farmers at the four points of sale. These are Had Kourt to supply the rural communes of Moulay Abdelkader and Sidi Azzoz, that of Ain Dfali intended for the communes of Ain Dfali and Bni Oual, that of Lamrabih to supply the commune of Lamrabih, and finally the point of sale of Sidi Amar El Hadi to supply the communes of Sidi Amar El Hadi and Sidi Ahmed Benaissa.
The quantities of seeds of different varieties sold are around 13,984 quintals. Sales prices have not experienced any significant variation compared to the previous season. As an example, soft wheat seeds are sold at 345 DH per quintal. Regarding fertilisers, the quantities marketed are around 7,378 quintals and the price is currently 290 DH per quintal. Furthermore, the rainfall recorded to date is around 380 mm against 157 mm on the same date of the past season, which has had a very positive impact on the state of the crops. Thus, the areas sown with cereals, the main crops in the area, are around 46,400 hectares.
Green Morocco Plan projectsThe intervention of the DPA is based on the Green Morocco Plan strategy, which consists of developing projects by sector. The beekeeping development project, which aims to diversify farmers' incomes, targets the upgrading of twelve beekeeping cooperatives and concerns three communes (Lamrabih, Ain Dfali, and Sidi Azzouz) for an amount of 5.636 million DH.
Regarding red meat, the project is carried out in partnership with the National Association of Sheep and Goats (ANOC). This project aims to improve the production of sheep red meat and the genetic potential of the livestock. The project spans four years and consists of the acquisition of purebred rams for the genetic improvement of herds, the organisation of breeders into groups, and the construction of a centre for the supply of livestock feed and veterinary products. The training of breeders, the organisation of competitions for the best breeders, the valorisation of production through the creation of fattening workshops, and the organisation of marketing are also on the programme. The number of rural communes concerned by the project started in 2010 is two (Lamrabih and Ain Dfali), and the one started in 2012 concerns five rural communes (Moulay Abdelkader, Sidi Azzouz, Sidi Amer El Hadi, Sidi Ahmed Benaissa, and Bni Oual). The total cost of the project launched in 2010 is 5.328 million DH, and the one launched in 2012 is 7.015 million DH.
Development of fruit arboriculture
Within the framework of the implementation of the Green Morocco Plan, the DPA of Sidi Kacem is executing two projects in arboriculture, notably:
Olive Project: this project is in its second year of execution on a total area of 2,500 ha, of which 350 ha were planted in the CR of Lamrabih and 600 ha in 2012 distributed between the two communes of Aïn Dfali and Sidi Ahmed Beni Aïssa.
Fig Tree Project: This project started in 2012 on an area of 100 ha in the rural commune of Sidi Aamer El Hadi for 75 beneficiaries who followed training in fig tree planting techniques.
-* The DPA of Sidi Kacem follows the execution of two hydro-agricultural development projects registered within the framework of absorbing the gap between the water resources mobilised in the dams of the region and the irrigable lands.
-* The hydro-agricultural development project linked to the Oued Ettine dam: On an area of 750 ha, this project is in the phase of execution studies and land consolidation works. The hydro-agricultural development will be programmed in 2013 for the head station and the supply canal.
