It must be said from the outset that the initiative is unprecedented in Sidi Kacem, which was chosen to test a new communication device launched by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) on a national scale. Taking the floor on this occasion, Mohammed Hmimar thanked all the press correspondents who responded to his invitation before stressing that this meeting is a first contact aimed at establishing communication channels with the press. He specified that a cell will be set up at the district level with the mission of providing journalists with various information concerning cases handled by the police services under the districts of Sidi Kacem, Méchraa Bel Ksiri, and Jorf El Melha. Press correspondents in this province will henceforth have the possibility of receiving photos and all information relating to actions carried out by the elements of the national security by email. Mr. Hmimar affirmed that the objective of this approach is to facilitate the task for press correspondents and thus put verified and complete information at their disposal. According to him, the publication by certain newspapers of unfounded information based solely on rumour can harm the reputation of innocent people and create serious confusion among citizens regarding the actions carried out by the police services. "The concerned services will make it a duty to contact you to communicate all kinds of information concerning criminal cases, the fight against drugs, traffic accidents, and operations carried out in certain points such as stations or schools," he specified. He added that the ultimate goal is to be attentive to citizens in a spirit of proximity, "but also to improve the image of the security forces who do important work, but which remains unknown to the public or even denigrated by rumours."
