Open dialogue between elected officials and young people

The local youth council of Séfrou organised, on 18 and 19 May, in the neighbourhood of the old Medina of Séfrou, a carnival for the promotion of dialogue between the commune of Séfrou and its young people. This is an event that is part of the Derbna Project financed by the small grants programme of the Local Governance Programme (LGP) of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This initiative constituted a new opportunity for the local youth council of Séfrou to bring together young people, civil society and communal executives to debate and discuss the various problems faced by young people for their better integration into local affairs. The local youth council of Séfrou is set up within the framework of the Local Governance Programme of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to constitute a platform for dialogue between elected officials and young people, but also a consultative body for proposals around the theme of the commune's youth.

An environmental campaign involving all concerned local actors in a spirit of volunteering and citizenship was, moreover, organised on the sidelines of this carnival. Note that the LGP has been led since February 2010 in partnership between the General Directorate of Local Authorities and USAID. Its strategic objective is to promote increased participation of citizens, particularly women and young people, in governance, through more effective and responsible local authorities. The LGP thus constitutes a platform for dialogue between the citizen and their commune.
