The urban commune of Salé has just adopted new techniques and modern management methods for public lighting. To guarantee the maintenance and sustainability of this new system, the City Council has set up a Local Development Company (SDL) responsible for managing these services. Named "Salé Nour", this company will have the mission of managing this service according to international standards, while optimising the overall cost of public lighting, which will be reduced. The new SDL, launched during this month of January, is the result of a partnership between the public and private sectors, linking the urban commune of Salé, as the contracting authority, the company OXA Maroc, and the energy investment company.
According to Nourredine Lazrak, the urban commune, which holds 51% of the capital of the new SDL, is the first commune to have undertaken such an initiative in this field. "Our ambition, through this initiative, is to offer a service that meets international standards and the expectations of the citizen in terms of management," he explains.
The programme is thus in compliance with the national policy regarding energy efficiency and renewable energies. It aims in particular at the professionalisation of the management of the public lighting service, the improvement of the quality of services, and the use of efficient management based on new techniques. At the same time, the launch of this SDL will make it possible to control the energy bill, which weighs heavily on the commune's budget. "We wish to reduce energy consumption by 40% over the next five years, to maintain the lighting network, to put in place a management system that limits risks related to accidents, and to establish an excellent relationship with citizens," concludes the president of the Salé communal council.
