Briton Oliver Conway and Russian Diana Isakova won the Moulay El Hassan Triathlon World Cup, which took place on Sunday at the seaside resort of Saidia, under the aegis of the Royal Moroccan Triathlon Federation (FRMTRI).
In the men's elite category, Briton Oliver Conway took first place with a time of 1 hour 45 minutes and 53 seconds, followed by Canadian Tyler Myslawchuk, second with a time of 1 hour 45 minutes and 58 seconds, while American John Reed finished third (1 hour 46 minutes and 11 seconds).
For her part, Russian Diana Isakova won the title in the women's elite category, achieving a time of 1 hour 57 minutes and 32 seconds, while second and third places in this race went respectively to American Danielle Orie (1 hour 57 minutes and 44 seconds) and Italian Ilaria Zane (1 hour 57 minutes and 58 seconds).
In a statement to the press, British competitor Oliver Conway expressed his immense joy after this victory, saying: "I think it was a fantastic race. It was hot so I tried not to rush too much on the bike and keep control of my performance, and about 500 metres from the finish, I pushed and managed to take a lead. It's my first participation in Morocco and my first World Cup, and everything was great here."
As for Diana Isakova, she indicated in a statement to MAP that she is very happy to have won this title, specifying: "I felt very good in swimming, cycling, and running too. I managed to increase my speed in the last two laps and make a slight difference. It's my first visit to Morocco and I hope to return."
This high-level sporting event saw the participation of 67 competitors representing more than 26 countries, including the top 10 triathletes in the world (5 men and 5 women).
The competition course was set up to offer the public a quality spectacle, as part of an event consisting of three disciplines: 1.5 kilometres of swimming, 40 kilometres of cycling, and 10 kilometres of running.
Organised by the Royal Moroccan Triathlon Federation in partnership with the Madaëf Sports & Events (MSE) Foundation, this international-scale event, placed under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, is a continuation of the Triathlon Africa Cup, which took place in Saidia last year.
The president of the Royal Moroccan Triathlon Federation, Majid Amahroq, stated that this race is one of the 13 rounds of the Triathlon World Cup, continuing that the town of Saidia impressed all participants with its beauty, the quality of the race courses, the warm welcome, and the excellent organisation.
He added, in a statement to MAP, that the international champions participated in the race with the aim of improving their times, noting that the weather was favourable to them, given the need to compete in a relatively hot climate during this type of race.
In addition to the elite race, Saidia hosted the first stage of the national amateur championship and an aquathlon dedicated to young people, thus offering a unique sporting experience to amateurs and young people and contributing to the development of triathlon in Morocco.
The Triathlon World Cup is one of the most important international championships supervised by World Triathlon, and its results are taken into account in the qualification ranking for the upcoming Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
