Reinforced security in Rabat for New Year's festivities in complete serenity

Hours before midnight strikes and the New Year takes the stage, it is not just the festivities that are in full swing, but also the security measures being put in place. In Rabat, law enforcement forces are deploying considerable efforts to ensure that the "New Year's Eve" takes place in the best conditions.

Reinforced checkpoints, random searches, and patrols put in place... All these measures are to ensure the serenity of citizens. Approached by Hespress FR, Hassan Ziat, Chief Police Commissioner and Head of the Prefectural Administrative Service, gives us more details: "On the occasion of the 2025 New Year's festivities, the Rabat Prefecture of Police has put in place a reinforced security apparatus to guarantee optimal security during this period. The objective is not only to ensure the tranquility of citizens but also to watch over the preservation of public order and the safety of property and persons".

To do this, all necessary human and material resources have been mobilized. This apparatus is part of a preventive and proactive approach, aiming to ensure a strategic and effective grid of the city of Rabat, he adds, before mentioning that this notably includes measures intended to secure the various neighborhoods, ensure the fluidity of road traffic, and anticipate any situation that could disrupt public order.

All units of the police prefecture are fully engaged and available to respond to citizens' requests, whether directly on the ground or via the command and coordination room. Although this type of apparatus is not unprecedented, it is distinguished by a significant reinforcement of the security presence on the ground.

This year is distinguished by an exceptional deployment, the commissioner informs us; thus, judicial and administrative checkpoints have been consolidated and the police presence has been extended to strategic zones. This reinforcement responds to the desire to guarantee maximum coverage and rapid intervention in case of need.

"Since 2015, the security mobilization of the Rabat Prefecture of Police has been in perfect coherence with the strategy of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), which rests on three fundamental axes: prevention, deterrence, and repression. These principles ensure not only public security but also the establishment of a stable and serene environment for all citizens during this festive period", he concludes, wishing the best to Moroccans and citizens around the world.

For his part, Mohammed Jelmad, Police Controller General and Head of the Riad district, also reached by Hespress FR, explains that in "execution of territorial instructions, the Rabat Prefecture of Police has put in place a set of security measures intended to guarantee the smooth running of the year-end festivities, while watching over the tranquility and safety of citizens. Aware of the massive influx expected in public spaces and festive gathering places, the Prefecture has anticipated security needs by adopting initiatives adapted to the requirements of efficiency, serenity, legality, as well as respect for human rights".

Thus, a reinforced apparatus has been deployed, including the presence of foot and motorized patrols, allowing for close surveillance and rapid intervention in case of need. Security checkpoints have also been installed strategically at various nerve centers of the city to guarantee continuous surveillance and an immediate response to any exceptional situation.

And he adds: specific supervision has been put in place around festive venues, with random searches and the use of metal detectors when deemed necessary, in order to prevent any incident and ensure a safe environment for all. Crowd flow management has also been optimized to avoid suspicious behavior and anticipate risks, while ensuring rapid intervention in case of emergency.

"All these security measures are implemented in perfect coordination with local authorities and competent services, with the goal of guaranteeing a harmonious management of the festivities and a climate of security for citizens. This close collaboration testifies to the common commitment to the preservation of public order and the protection of fundamental rights, so that everyone can enjoy this festive period in serenity", he hopes.
