Several people demonstrated on Thursday afternoon in front of the parliament headquarters in Rabat to denounce racism, crimes against immigrants, and the expulsion of migrants.
"Stop racist crimes and expulsions. Respect the dignity of migrants," read the banners. "We are all African, a little white, a little black," the protesters chanted.
Khadija Riyadi, the human rights activist present at the demonstration, stressed that this gathering was above all "an opportunity to show solidarity with immigrants from sub-Saharan Africa, the primary victims of violence, whether from the authorities or citizens." "Morocco is a signatory to the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families. It must therefore live up to its commitments by protecting and respecting these citizens," she added.
This demonstration comes a few days after the murder of Charles Ndour, a Senegalese national, in the Boukhalef district in the suburbs of Tangier. The participants also denounced the murders of the Senegalese Ismaila Faye and Amadou, a Malian migrant.
