Amir Al Mouminine performs Friday prayer at the Hassan Mosque in Rabat

In his sermon, the Imam dwelt on the place and mission of mosques in the life of believers, starting from the verse of the Surah "Al Jinn": "In truth, the mosques are the exclusive property of God. Do not invoke anyone other than Him there!" He indicated that the Almighty chose Islam as the religion for the Ummah of the Prophet Sidna Mohammed, may prayer and peace be upon him, an Ummah that He guided on the path of faith and good works and to which He recommended performing prayer as one of the obligations it must fulfil: "Salat is an obligation for believers and it must take place at precise times" (An-Nisa). God made mosques the most appropriate places for the performance of prayer and that is why the Almighty ordered their construction and that believers flock there to fulfil this religious duty: "It is this light that illuminates the temples that God has permitted to be raised so that His Name may be invoked there, and where men glorify Him, morning and evening, whom no trade or transaction diverts from the joy of exalting the Lord, performing Salat or giving Zakat alms, because these men fear a day when hearts will be shaken and eyes annihilated with terror, in the hope that God will reward them for the best of what they have accomplished and grant them an increase of His grace, because God dispenses His benefits to whom He wills without counting" (An-Nur). Consequently, mosques are endowed with great sacredness and the holy religion has invested them with an enormous mission, added the Imam, noting that these houses of God are meeting places for Muslims who flock there to invoke God, with a pure soul, sincere faith and a pacified, serene heart filled with submission to the Almighty. This is also why the construction of mosques was the first action undertaken by the messenger of God after his departure for Medina, fleeing the exactions of the disbelievers in Mecca and where he built the first mosque in Islam, that of Quba, before building Al Masjid an-Nabawi to incite the faithful to glorify God and observe the precepts of the holy religion. The companions of the Prophet and their descendants among the Caliphs of the Muslims and other virtuous believers, for their part, set about building mosques whose noble missions they understood pertinently and based on their firm conviction that such acts will be amply rewarded by God and that mosques are the most appropriate place for Muslims to express their attachment to the Almighty. Conscious of the place and the noble mission of mosques, the Sovereigns of Morocco have always worked for the construction, renovation and rehabilitation of these houses of God in all the cities of the Kingdom, particularly under the Alaouite dynasty, said the Imam, adding that H.M. King Mohammed VI, Amir Al Mouminine, worthy successor of these Sovereigns, makes this same approach his own by granting great interest to mosques in terms of construction, rehabilitation and equipment and by surrounding the religious staff with His high solicitude on moral and material levels. The Imam recalled in this regard that H.M. the King has ordered since the year 2000 that literacy courses be provided in the mosques of the Kingdom for the benefit of both sexes, a praiseworthy action that bears fruit year after year. At the end of his sermon, the Imam implored the Almighty to grant support and assistance to H.M. the King, Amir Al Mouminine, protector of the cult and religion, to preserve the Sovereign as a source of benefits for the Ummah and to fill him with blessings in the persons of H.R.H. Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, H.R.H. Prince Moulay Rachid and all the members of the illustrious Royal Family. The Imam also raised prayers to the Most High to surround with His holy mercy the late H.M. Hassan II and the late H.M. Mohammed V and to welcome them into His paradise among the Prophets, the saints and the virtuous.
