The Kingdom's unwavering will to strengthen its African roots

Inauguration of the African Unity Square in Rabat for the celebration of Africa Day, inscribing its solidarity action with Africa in continuity and constancy
The Kingdom's unwavering will to strengthen its African roots

As part of the festivities marking the celebration of Africa Day in Morocco, a square named African Unity was inaugurated on Friday in Rabat, an initiative that confirms the Kingdom's will to strengthen its African roots. This Square was inaugurated during a ceremony presided over by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Saad Dine El Otmani, and the dean of the African diplomatic corps, the Ambassador of the Central African Republic to Morocco, Ismaïla Nimaga. Speaking on this occasion, El Otmani indicated that this event reflects the determination of Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, to inscribe its solidarity action with Africa in continuity and constancy, to promote South-South cooperation, to establish peace and stability on the Black Continent, and to ensure sustainable development for all its countries. After the battle for independence, Africa is at the hour of unity and global development, observed El Otmani. For his part, the dean of the African diplomatic corps affirmed that Morocco has always been by Africa's side, expressing the wish to see the Kingdom reintegrate into the African family. He added that the Kingdom demonstrates once again “its Africanness” by dedicating a square in the centre of Rabat to African Unity, saluting, at the same time, the Kingdom's will to make South-South Cooperation a tool for development. For his part, the President of the Rabat City Council, Fathallah Oualallou, assured that the inauguration of the African Unity Square is an opportunity to celebrate a double confirmation: Morocco's roots in Africa and its commitment to the development of the Continent. Recalling that the city of Rabat hosts an important community of African students who are pursuing their university studies in Morocco, Oualallou indicated that the capital of the Kingdom will host, from 1 to 4 October, the 4th World Congress of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), which testifies, according to him, to the choice position that this city occupies. Punctuated by traditional African songs and dances, the inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of, among others, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Youssef Amrani, and African ambassadors accredited to Morocco.
