The Kuwaiti selection won the 4th edition of the Moulay El Hassan International Basketball Tournament (-12 years) in Rabat, organised from 10 to 12 May by the Union Sportive de Touarga (UST), under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI.
The Kuwaitis won this edition by beating the UST team 49 to 45 in the final at the Ibn Yassine hall.
In the semi-finals, the UST dominated the French selection (32-20) while the Kuwaiti selection eliminated its Saudi counterpart (21-12). The Saudis completed the podium after their victory in the classification match against the French selection (29-13).
Initiated in celebration of the 10th anniversary of HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, this edition saw the participation of seven Arab and European teams from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, France, the Netherlands, in addition to the selections of the Chaouia, North, Tafilalt, Sahara, North-East, and Oum Rabiî Leagues and the organising club represented by teams A and B.
Reserved for children aged 8 to 12, this competition took place in the form of a mini-tournament grouping three groups. The qualifying events (1st round) were played over two days, knowing that the matches are played in four periods of eight minutes each. This tournament allows for the creation of a platform for the exchange of experiences and expertise between the different participating countries, promotes the emergence of new talents and promotes basketball in the Kingdom. It also offers the opportunity for participants to measure themselves against competitors of different nationalities in an atmosphere of fair competition and fair play. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd editions of this tournament were won respectively by the French, Kuwaiti and UST selections. Furthermore, the Tunisian Maher Hasnaoui won the 3rd and final stage of the 4th edition of the HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan International Cycling Challenge, endowed with the Royal House Trophy.
Hasnaoui completed the stage contested on Sunday between Khouribga and Fqih Ben Saleh via Oued Zem and Béni Mellal (148.5 km) with a time of 3h 18min 11sec. He finished ahead of the Frenchman Mathieu Perget and the Moroccan Soufiane Haddi (national team A) in the sprint.
Endowed with the HRH Crown Prince's Birthday Trophy, the second stage (Bouznika and Khouribga: 147.5 km) was won by the Tunisian Rafaâ Chtioui, junior world vice-champion, ahead of the Moroccan Adel Jelloul (national selection A) and the Emirati Badr Mohamed Mirza Bani Hammad. Counting for the HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan Trophy, the first stage (Rabat-Benslimane: 136.6 km) of this edition (10-12 May) was won by Jelloul ahead of Chtioui and the other Moroccan Mouhcin Lahsaini.
Registered on the UCI calendar, this competition (10-12 May) saw the participation of riders representing the following countries: Algeria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Slovakia, France, the United States and Morocco.
