It is at the International University of Rabat that experts and researchers on international migration and development met. A conference organised by the World Bank, the Marseille Centre for Mediterranean Integration and the Ministry in charge of the Moroccan Community Living Abroad. A meeting that began in Rabat but which will continue over the weekend at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane with a programme rich in activities and purely academic. The day on migration began with a session reserved for journalists' questions to Minister Maâzouz. The questions were essentially focused on the Moroccan community living abroad, notably the return of Moroccan immigrants to their country following the economic crisis raging in Europe and elsewhere. A return that does not seem to worry the Benkirane government unduly, occupied more by partisan interests and quarrels of its majority weakened by a hegemonic behaviour of the head of the Executive. This day devoted to the analysis of public policies attempts to forge links between experts and political decision-makers on the subject of mobility. It also aims to define the negative but also positive impact in terms of development, in the host and origin countries. The conference on international migration and development is in its sixth edition. It is the first time that World Bank officials have decided to rethink immigration by choosing a country of origin. They believe, as explained by Manjula Luthria, programme manager at the World Bank, that this conference seeks to find ways to integrate the dimensions of migration into the development programmes of the global financial institution. This day was also an opportunity to debate and exchange different points of view between researchers and experts in the field. However, by detailing the conference programme, one would notice that Moroccan researchers are marginalised; only a handful of them dared to attend as simple spectators. The work of this day focused on migratory profiles and types of migration, the exploitation of data relating to the phenomenon, the positive contribution of the diaspora, return migration and reintegration as well as the mobility of health professionals.
