The Minister of Economy and Finance, Nizar Baraka, affirmed, on Tuesday in Rabat, the government's commitment to rationalising public spending by limiting it to necessary needs, adding that "the rationalisation of expenditure and the revision of the administration's lifestyle come within the framework of the government's approach advocating rationalisation".
Responding to an oral question from the Socialist Coalition parliamentary group in the House of Councillors, Mr. Baraka indicated that the government is also keen to place efficiency and effectiveness at the heart of public spending through the rationalisation of the administration's lifestyle, the implementation of the principle of common use of available resources, and financing alternatives to reduce pressure on the State budget.
In this context, he highlighted the 44% reduction in vehicle acquisition expenditure between 2010 and 2013, underlining the government's action to rationalise the operation of the vehicle fleet.
He recalled the circular from the Head of Government which provides for the need to refrain from purchasing cars except in necessary and motivated cases with the possibility of resorting to leasing, and the establishment of a special commission chaired by the Head of Government aimed at reviewing the situation of the State's vehicle fleet.
