Oujda – Projects aimed at strengthening social and health infrastructures were inaugurated, on Thursday in Oujda, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 22nd anniversary of the Royal Initiative for the development of the Oriental region.
These projects, which come in addition to the series of achievements implemented in the region to strengthen social and economic development, are part of the continuous efforts deployed at the regional level, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to promote sustainable development in the Oriental.
Thus, the Wali of the Oriental region, governor of the Oujda-Angad prefecture, Khatib El Hebil, accompanied notably by the president of the regional council, Mohamed Bouarourou, elected officials, and local and regional officials, inaugurated the Sidi Maâfa Youth House, which offers this segment of society the possibility to flourish, through a multitude of socio-cultural activities.
This structure underwent renovation and equipment works that required an investment of nearly 4 million dirhams (MDH), within the framework of a partnership between the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, the Oriental Regional Council, and the Agency for the Promotion and Economic and Social Development.
The second project is the Dhar Lamhalla women's centre and vocational training centre, whose reconstruction works required more than 3.7 MDH. It is a space for training and learning for girls and women, aiming to promote their socio-economic insertion and their flourishing.
The Al Maghreb Al Arabi Reception Centre was also inaugurated, arranged over a covered area of 1,710 m2 for a cost of approximately 2.37 MDH.
This structure, which underwent renovation and extension works, offers a capacity of 80 beds, and is intended to welcome young Moroccans and foreigners for quality temporary accommodation accompanied by various services, in addition to the organisation of training sessions, study days, and meetings to strengthen the effective role of young people in the social and cultural fabric.
In a statement to the press, the Regional Director of the Youth Department of the Oriental, Nour Najia, explained that these three structures represent important advances reflecting the strategy of the supervisory ministry, aiming to strengthen infrastructures and improve the quality of services offered in these spaces, in order to meet the needs and expectations of young people.
These spaces, once limited to recreational and artistic activities, now offer opportunities for training and coaching, reflecting a vision centred on youth as a fundamental pillar of society and development, she stressed.
Furthermore, the health infrastructure in Oujda was strengthened by the creation of an Integrated Consultation Centre at the Mohammed VI University Hospital (CHU) with an investment of nearly 25 MDH.
The director of the Mohammed VI University Hospital of Oujda, Badr Serji, specified that this project, carried out within the framework of a partnership between the Oriental Regional Council and the CHU, aims to provide an adequate and humane space for patients coming for consultations.
This three-storey establishment with 39 rooms dedicated to external consultations will also be equipped with a scanner, standard radiology equipment, as well as an internal laboratory to perform biological analyses, he made known, noting that this Centre will contribute significantly to reducing the pressure on the current facilities of the CHU, while improving the reception conditions and services offered to patients.
The Wali and the delegation accompanying him also visited the new headquarters of the Provincial Delegation of Equipment and Water.
The provincial delegate for Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water in Oujda-Angad, Yassine Belaoufi, explained that this building, the former headquarters of Public Works, built before 1921 and which underwent restoration and development works for a budget of around 5 MDH, is part of the implementation of the High Royal Orientations aiming at the reform and modernisation of the Moroccan administration.
It also aligns with the ministry's policy aiming to develop and maintain administrative buildings, in order to improve the quality of services offered to citizens and users, he added, noting that the main objective of the project is to improve working conditions for civil servants, while preserving the cultural and historical heritage of this building, which is one of the oldest administrative buildings in the city of Oujda and the Kingdom.
