Imagined by artist Jean-François Fourtou: Ramakech reinvents the cultural visit in Marrakech
Immersive experience In the heart of the Palmeraie, the Ramakech sculpture park imagined by visual artist Jean-François Fourtou offers an immersive experience where works can be walked through, discovered, and lived. A few minutes from the centre of Marrakech, Ramakech offers another way to discover art. Set on nearly five hectares in the Palmeraie, this open-air sculpture park imagined by visual artist Jean-François Fourtou invites visitors to enter a universe where works can be walked through, discovered, and lived. Open to the public since 2024, Ramakech was born from twenty years of installations created on the site of the artist's studio. Monumental sculptures, surprising architectures, giant animals, and poetic gardens compose a singular landscape, on the border of dream and memory. In this park, nature becomes the setting for an artistic and sensory journey. The works dialogue with the vegetation and appear at the turn of the paths, like fragments of a personal story transformed by the artist's imagination. It should be noted that Jean-François Fourtou was born in Paris in 1964 and graduated from the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris. He lives and works in Marrakech. Since the 1990s, he has developed an artistic universe nourished by his childhood memories, his family, and the places that have marked his life. Through disproportionate houses, destabilising architectures, and animal sculptures, he plays with scales and landmarks. His installations invite the visitor to rediscover a freer and more sensitive perception of the world. A space where imagination reclaims its rights. "I had the impression that everything was giant! My inspiration comes from childhood and my installations invite one to feel forgotten, but common perceptions," declares Jean-François Fourtou. At Ramakech, the visitor does not just observe the works: they can enter some of them, walk through them, and experience them physically. Each installation constitutes a fragment of a universe, between memory, fiction, and architecture. Throughout the journey, visitors discover in particular The House Fallen from the Sky and Parisian Bistro, the Giant Anthill, animal sculptures, The Giant's House, and the hybrid characters of Ramakech Nanitos and Minitos… More than a sculpture garden, Ramakech offers another way to discover Marrakech, away from the usual routes.
