Promoting cancer research

Moroccan oncologists are holding their 6th annual congress on 21 and 22 March in Marrakech, to exchange information and learn about the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of cancerous diseases.

The Moroccan Association for Training and Research in Medical Oncology (AMFROM) will hold its 6th annual national congress on 21 and 22 March in Marrakech, with proceedings focusing particularly on "immunotherapy and personalised treatment".

This medical gathering brings together national, Maghreb, and international oncology experts every year to exchange information and learn about the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of cancerous diseases.

"Immunology and personalised treatment constitute a relevant thematic choice in an international context marked by the renewed interest in immunotherapy for cancer treatment with the advent of second-generation molecules. Personalised treatment is now essential in the era of genomic sequencing of tumours and bespoke treatment," the organisers stated regarding this 6th congress.

Drug treatment is now an essential modality in cancer care, hence the need to inform professionals about the evolution of various therapies and advances in research in this field, the same source indicated.

This scientific event comes in a context marked by the momentum initiated by the Lalla Salma Foundation for Cancer Prevention and Treatment and the Ministry of Health, with the aim of promoting cancer research, particularly in medical oncology, as well as optimising therapeutic results by increasing the effectiveness of drug treatments while minimising their short- and medium-term side effects, highlights a presentation note for this 6th edition.

The major challenge of this Congress is to bring research and care together around a single national event and to take stock of current topics revolving around the care of cancer patients (personalised medicine, immunotherapy, nutrition).

The programme for this medical conclave includes interactive workshops, conferences by national and international experts, and symposiums dedicated to innovative therapies in partnership with the pharmaceutical industry.

The Maghreb session of the congress, initiated 3 years ago as part of the congress, continues during this 6th edition and testifies to the continuity of Maghreb cooperation in the field of oncology and inter-Maghreb scientific exchanges, the organisers added.
