The Association of Teachers of Life and Earth Sciences in Morocco (AESVT), Marrakech section, proceeded in Marrakech to the launch at the local level of the "Co-production of cleanliness" project, a national initiative aimed at improving the citizen's living environment. At the Marrakech level, 5 neighbourhoods falling under 5 districts were designated model neighbourhoods in terms of waste sorting at the source. These are the Tamesna neighbourhoods (Ennakhil district), Al Khachab Avenue (Sidi Youssef Ben Ali district), Jnan Al Afia (Medina district), Al Wahda 4 (Gueliz district), and M'Hamid 5 (Menara district). Speaking on this occasion, the president of the Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz Regional Council, Ahmed Touizi, noted that the problem of solid waste is a collective responsibility, assuring the Regional Council's willingness to contribute to the success of the "Co-production of cleanliness" project. The president of the AESVT-Marrakech section, Abdelhalim Fakihani, for his part, indicated that the objective of the national "Co-production of cleanliness" initiative is to associate local actors and support the inhabitants of the various targeted neighbourhoods for the improvement of their living environment, through a management system involving the various actors of society. The success of this promising experience remains dependent on the effective involvement of all development actors and the local population, which is a main partner in this programme, he added. Subsequently, a partnership agreement was signed between the representatives of the local actors of each neighbourhood. Placed under the theme "Clean neighbourhood: a right and an obligation", the national "Co-production of cleanliness" project, launched from Demnate last April, is part of the National Household and Similar Waste Programme (PNDM). It consists of supervising the inhabitants of some 90 neighbourhoods, 100 schools, and 20 national sites in 22 cities of the Kingdom over a period of 4 years, thanks to the implementation of a progressive and continuous action plan for better management of household waste. To achieve the expected results, the project recommends involving all stakeholders and the good will of the neighbourhood, encouraging inhabitants to sort waste at the source, developing and organising the various recycling sectors (paper, glass, plastic, organic waste), and supporting structures attached to neighbourhoods and schools (mosques, youth centres, and associations).
