The Institute of Maritime Fisheries Technology (ITPM) of Larache organised, from 6 to 8 April, a regional training course and a seminar led by Moroccan experts, with the participation of 15 speakers from 9 countries in Africa and 5 others from Japan. At the opening of the seminar, last Wednesday, a conference-debate was led by Dr Osamu Baba, from the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, on the theme "Management of maritime fisheries in Japan and Morocco". The speaker presented the achievements of his university in terms of fisheries management in Japan, by comparing the fisheries management policies of his country and Western countries. It was also proceeded to the presentation of the balance sheet of the training course of three students of the ITPM, from October to December 2015, on planning for the sustainable development of fishing communities.
"This seminar is part of a tripartite cooperation project initiated by Morocco for the benefit of French-speaking African countries. The objective of this project is to strengthen the capacities of participants from target countries in the fields of development of artisanal and coastal fisheries, as well as techniques for processing and valorising seafood products, hygiene, and quality assurance of fishery products", explains Azzedine Belrhazi, project manager at the ITPM.
