The first edition of the National Olive Fair of the Kelaâ des Sraghna province will take place from 22 to 26 October in Al-Attaouia, under the theme "The olive sector: quality and marketing at the heart of the Green Morocco Plan". Initiated under the aegis of the Ministry of Agriculture in partnership with the Moroccan Interprofessional Olive Federation, the Regional Chamber of Agriculture of Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, the Provincial Council of Kelaâ’t Essraghna, and the Municipal Council of Al-Attaouia, the Fair is now intended to be a meeting place for professionals and researchers in the olive sector. This event, according to its organisers, also constitutes "an ideal opportunity to promote aggregation, a real opportunity to open up to the latest technical developments in this field, and a real space for the promotion and development of the olive sector in Morocco".
On the programme for this Fair, set up on 6,000 m2 and which will bring together some 80 exhibitors, it is worth mentioning in particular training workshops for producers, an "Agricultural Advice" space, and a performance awards ceremony for the best oils.
It should be noted that the olive tree remains the main arboricultural sector in the Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz region and occupies a central place in the socio-economic development of the region with 25% of national production and a contribution of 70% to national exports of canned olives. Its cultivation occupies an area of 158,000 hectares, or 20% of the national olive area.
Similarly, particular interest is given to olive growing within the framework of the Regional Agricultural Plan, as it represents more than 50% of the number of projects programmed in the region and more than 70% in terms of investment. Since the launch of the Green Morocco Plan in 2009, the region has seen the expansion of the area planted with olive trees by 35,000 hectares and the establishment of five olive oil production units with a capacity of 800 tonnes/day.
The province of Kelaâ des Sraghna provides 50% of production with an area of 47,700 hectares of olive trees and concentrates several processing units.
