Khénifra prepares to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of El Herri

The city of Khénifra is preparing to commemorate from 12 to 14 November the centenary of the Battle of El Herri, an opportunity to remember the epics of the former resistance fighters of the Middle Atlas who mobilized for the defense of the Nation.

This historical event is an opportunity to show new generations the bravery, self-denial, commitment, and patriotic spirit demonstrated by the resistance fighters of the Middle Atlas region, led by the hero Moha Ou Hammmou Zayani, who were able to thwart the expansionist plans of the colonial forces aiming to get their hands on this strategic region of the Kingdom.

The commemoration of this historical event comes in addition to the multiple efforts and initiatives aimed at preserving the national memory and highlighting the epic of the Throne and the people for independence and national unity, according to the provincial delegation of the High Commission for Former Resistance Fighters and Former Members of the Liberation Army, which emphasizes that this event aims primarily to keep alive the noble founding principles of the Nation and to consecrate loyalty to its sacred values, under the enlightened leadership of H.M. King Mohammed VI.

A rich and diversified program, providing for various cultural and educational activities, presentations dealing with the preservation of national memory as well as the screening of documentaries on the history of the national resistance, has been developed by the provincial delegation of the High Commission for Former Resistance Fighters and Former Members of the Liberation Army in collaboration with the province of Khénifra.

The Battle of El Herri constituted, like other operations of the Liberation Army, a decisive turning point and a landmark phase in the struggle of the Throne and the people for freedom, independence, and the defense of religious and national constants.

This battle, like many other epics that have marked the permanent struggle of the Moroccan people against all covetousness aiming at its unity and territorial integrity, will remain forever engraved in the collective memory of Moroccans.

During this battle, a radiant page in the history of the Kingdom and a source of national pride, the resistance fighters inflicted a heavy and humiliating defeat on the colonial forces who lost 623 soldiers and 33 officers, in addition to 175 wounded.

Despite the blatant gap in numbers and equipment, the resistance fighters of the Atlas tribes, led by the martyr Moha Ouhamou Zayani, whose name will remain forever linked to this battle, also took possession of a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition.
