The police set up their communication unit

The new structure will be in charge of relations with the press and will work to provide media representatives with information and statistics.

With the aim of bringing the local public opinion closer to the security situation, the Kénitra police prefecture recently created a communication unit. This structure will be in charge of relations with the press and will work to provide media representatives with information or statistics concerning the daily work of the various police services for the guarantee of the safety of citizens and their property. El Moumini Bouziane, deputy prefect of the Kénitra police, did not fail to stress, during a meeting with representatives of the local and national media, that this participatory approach between the police force and the press will be carried out in total transparency and in compliance with the laws and regulations in force. He specified that the citizen had the right to be informed of the actions carried out by the police services and that the press had a major role to play in this regard.

This new approach was appreciated by the media corps of the city of Kénitra, knowing that several pieces of information that have been circulating recently, particularly through social networks, are either devoid of any foundation or taken out of context. These "fake news" stories, it seems, aim to create a feeling of insecurity among the population. A lost bet since the inhabitants of the city go about their business in complete serenity.

Let us mention in this regard the incidents that occurred last week in the popular "Saknia" district, which pitted law enforcement against trainee teachers who had been infiltrated by rioters and disruptive elements. After having carried out all the usual formalities and after having shown patience, the law enforcement forces received instructions to intervene, especially since the safety of the inhabitants and their property was threatened. Several witnesses reported that delinquents and other individuals with ulterior motives took advantage of the situation to sow disorder and profit from it. At the same time, the police services succeeded in overcoming the feeling of insecurity and gaining the trust of a population that exceeds 450,000 inhabitants. In a city that enjoys a privileged geographical location and is close to cities and urban areas of large, medium and small sizes, many police officers in the capital of the Gharb are confronted, in the exercise of their missions, with their daily lot of difficulties.

Aware of the challenges to be met, the Kénitra police prefecture has adopted a strategy aimed at strengthening public security and ensuring the peace of mind of citizens. The merit of this challenge is all the more appreciable as the challenges posed by galloping demographics and an exodus from other cities and the countryside towards Kénitra are difficult to face. This vision has proven successful since we note the total absence of major crime or organised banditry.
